Scheduling, Rescheduling, and Exam Expiration

Learn how to schedule and reschedule exam reservations and review deadlines for exams.

How do I schedule an exam after I've purchased it?

To schedule an exam, log in to the Training Portal at trainingportal.linuxfoundation.org and click Start or Resume next to the certification. This loads the Exam Checklist for that certification.

Complete the items in the checklist's Getting Started section first. Once those items are done, wait for the Schedule button in the Schedule Exam section to become active (this can take up to 30 minutes). Clicking the Schedule button redirects you to PSI's scheduling site and logs you in automatically, where you can search for your exam using its Exam Code and proceed with scheduling.

The following scheduling rules apply once you reach PSI's site:

  • Reservations require a 24-hour lead time, so the earliest available time slot is always the next day.

  • Time slots are available in all time zones and on all days of the week, including weekends, but scheduling is first-come, first-served, so availability is not guaranteed.

  • The reservation date you select must fall on or before your exam's expiration date.

  • The scheduling calendar shows availability at most 90 days ahead.

  • Reservation changes (rescheduling or canceling) are only possible more than 24 hours before the scheduled start time. At 24 hours or less before the start time, no changes are allowed, and you must either sit the exam as scheduled or forfeit the attempt.

If you have difficulty completing these steps, first try clearing your browser cache or starting a new incognito browser session, then retry. If that does not resolve the issue, submit a question through this form and indicate at which step you got stuck.

I don't see a Schedule option in the Training Portal. How do I schedule my exam?

If you don't see a Schedule option, click the Start or Resume button next to your certification in the training portal. This loads the Exam Checklist, and the checklist will prompt you through each step needed to schedule the exam, including the steps described above for reaching PSI's scheduling site.

How do I reschedule or cancel an exam reservation I've already scheduled?

To reschedule or cancel an existing reservation, follow these steps:

  1. Click Resume next to the certification exam to load the Exam Checklist.

  2. Go to the Schedule Exam section of the Exam Checklist.

  3. Click the link to Cancel or Reschedule, which redirects you to PSI's scheduling site.

  4. On PSI's site, go to the Manage tab to find your scheduled reservation and use the options there to reschedule or cancel it.

Reservation changes are only possible more than 24 hours before the scheduled start time. At 24 hours or less before the start time, no changes are allowed, and you must either sit the exam as scheduled or forfeit the attempt. Rescheduling instructions are also included in the exam reservation confirmation email sent by PSI.

I'm trying to cancel / reschedule an exam reservation that starts in less than 24 hours

Unfortunately, at 24 hours or less before an exam reservation's start time, there is nothing that can be done to reschedule or change a reservation. The exam server and proctor have both been provisioned, and the cost for your reservation has been incurred at that point.

Çandidates who have missed the deadline for canceling or rescheduling a reservation are encouraged to take the exam as scheduled rather than forfeit the attempt.

How long do I have to schedule and take my exam, and can I choose my own exam date?

For most exams, purchasing the exam gives you 12 months of eligibility to take it, and you are responsible for scheduling your own reservation within that period. Time slots are available in all time zones and on all days of the week, including weekends, though scheduling is first come, first served. Your reservation date must fall within your 12-month eligibility period, meaning on or before your exam's expiration date, and the scheduling calendar itself shows availability at most 90 days ahead at any given time.

There are two exceptions to the standard 12-month eligibility period:

  • Certain exams, such as beta exams, may not come with a full 12 months of eligibility.

  • If you enrolled in an exam through a corporate subscription, the expiration date of that corporate subscription applies instead of the standard 12-month period.

Why can't I pick a reservation date more than 3 months out, even though my exam doesn't expire for longer than that?

The scheduling calendar shows availability at most 90 days (about 3 months) ahead at any given time, regardless of how much later your exam's actual expiration date is. If your desired date is more than 90 days away, you'll need to wait until that date falls within the 90-day scheduling window before you can select it.

The other scheduling rules described above still apply once you're within that window: reservations require a 24-hour lead time, your reservation date must still fall on or before your exam's expiration date, and reservation changes are only possible more than 24 hours before the scheduled start time.
