This article covers certification exam retakes: when you become eligible, how to claim one, when it expires, and how long it takes to schedule after a failed attempt.
When do I get my retake?
You can only claim your free retake after your first exam attempt has been graded as a No Pass. If your order includes eligibility for a retake, the retake is issued once your first attempt is graded.
Here's how that grading and claiming process works:
Exams are graded within about 24 hours of the time you complete the exam.
Once grading is complete, your results are emailed to you and posted to the Linux Foundation training portal.
If your score is below passing and your order is eligible for a retake, you can claim the retake from the Exam Checklist in the training portal.
The deadline to complete the retake is 12 months from your original purchase date (see "What is the deadline for my free retake?" below for the full policy, including how a corporate subscription can affect this date).
How do I claim my free retake?
If your score report shows that you're eligible for a retake, you can claim it directly in the Linux Foundation training portal. Follow these steps:
Log in to the training portal at trainingportal.linuxfoundation.org.
Click Resume for the certification exam to load the Exam Checklist.
Go to the Results section of the Exam Checklist.
Click the Claim Retake button.
Clicking Claim Retake loads a new Exam Checklist for your retake. From there, follow the steps in that new checklist to schedule a date for your free retake.
Be sure to click Claim Retake no later than the retake's posted expiration date, and be sure to schedule your retake for a date on or before that expiration date.
What is the deadline for my free retake?
If your exam order includes eligibility for a retake, the deadline to complete that retake is whichever of these two dates comes first:
12 months from the purchase or order date of the exam, or
The date your corporate subscription expires (if your exam access is provided through a corporate subscription).
You can also confirm your expiration date at the top of the Exam Checklist in the training portal.
Is there a wait period before I can sit my free retake?
There is no enforced wait period before you can sit your free retake. However, two factors affect how soon you can actually get and schedule one:
Grading time: Your free retake can only be issued after your first attempt has been graded as a No Pass, and exams are scored about 24 hours after you complete them. This means at least one day must pass before your eligibility for a free retake can be determined.
Reservation lead time: Exam reservations require a 24-hour lead time, so the earliest possible retake reservation is 24 hours from when you schedule it.
Because of these two factors, if you want to make sure you have enough time to fit in a retake before your free retake deadline, we recommend scheduling your first exam attempt at least 2 weeks before your exam's expiration date.
