Getting Ready for a PSI Exam: using the Remote Testing Tutorial and other tools & features from PSI

Get info on PSI's Remote Testing Tutorial, proctoring compatibility check and SMS enrollment. Only applies to exams that are proctored by PSI.

What does PSI's Remote Testing Tutorial cover, and when can I access it?

PSI's Remote Testing Tutorial is a practice walkthrough available only to candidates who have an upcoming exam reservation scheduled with PSI, and it remains accessible up until 150 minutes before your scheduled exam start time. After you schedule a new reservation with PSI, you can find a link to the tutorial in your booking confirmation.

You should use the same computer and network for the tutorial that you plan to use on exam day, since the tutorial is meant to confirm that your actual exam setup works. The tutorial walks you through how to:

  • Download and install PSI's Secure Browser

  • Identify and deactivate or uninstall prohibited programs and processes

  • Understand how PSI's mobile ID upload process works

  • Navigate the Secure Browser interface

  • Successfully close out and exit your exam

If you have trouble accessing the Remote Testing Tutorial after scheduling your reservation, contact PSI's support team directly through their Live Chat Support.

Can I get my Remote Testing Tutorial attempts reset?

You cannot have your Remote Testing Tutorial attempt counter reset, because the Remote Testing Tutorial is managed entirely by PSI and PSI does not offer resets. You get 3 attempts total on the Remote Testing Tutorial for a given reservation.

If you cancel and reschedule your exam, scheduling the new reservation will generate a brand-new Remote Testing Tutorial link, and your attempt counter will reset to 3 new attempts.

My camera or microphone isn't being detected during the Remote Testing Tutorial. What should I do?

If your camera or microphone isn't detected during the Remote Testing Tutorial, first contact PSI's support team through their Live Chat Support, since PSI manages the tutorial directly. Before contacting PSI, you can try PSI's recommended troubleshooting steps for webcam or video-streaming issues:

  • Confirm that your computer's operating system version and edition are supported for PSI's Secure Browser (using an unsupported OS can cause problems like the webcam not working, or only working intermittently).

  • Avoid using work-provided devices or work networks when taking the exam, since corporate firewalls and VPNs commonly block the connection the Secure Browser needs.

  • Use as plain a system and network setup as possible - no special network configuration, firewall rules, or proxies, and disable antivirus software during the exam.

  • Update your camera drivers.

  • Try a different network and/or a different machine.

If you've tried these steps and still have issues, contact PSI's support team, since they manage the Remote Testing Tutorial and troubleshooting for it.

Why is PSI's Online Proctoring Compatibility Check showing a different OS than what's installed on my machine?

PSI's Online Proctoring Compatibility Check can help verify whether your machine and setup meet certain system requirements for your exam, but its accuracy is limited by your browser's settings and permissions — so a mismatch between the detected OS and your actual OS doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with your machine.

You should always review the System Requirements section of the Candidate Handbook in full, rather than relying solely on the Compatibility Check tool to confirm your system meets requirements. You can also review PSI's general Secure Browser system requirements directly at PSI's system requirements page. Additionally, if you have an upcoming reservation scheduled through PSI, PSI's Remote Testing Tutorial (linked in your booking confirmation) lets you test your actual setup ahead of exam day.

If you have specific questions about the Compatibility Check tool itself, use the Help option available on PSI's system check site.

Why can't I change the Country or Address details shown for my account on PSI's site?

The address information shown for your account on PSI's test-taker site, including the country field, does not need to be updated and can be ignored = it has no effect on your ability to schedule or sit your exam.

When you schedule an exam reservation, you'll see a separate prompt during scheduling to select the country and timezone that match your location at the time you take the exam; use that prompt to set your actual location details.

You should, however, check that the First and Last Name values on your PSI account match the values printed on your government-issued ID exactly, since these are the same values PSI check-in specialists and proctors will check against your ID during exam check-in.

If your name needs to be corrected, follow these steps:

  • Go to the Getting Started section of the Exam Checklist in the Linux Foundation training portal (trainingportal.linuxfoundation.org).

  • Use the Verify Name field to update your first and last name.

  • Complete this update before you launch your exam reservation — changes made after launching a reservation will not apply to that reservation.

  • If you already updated the Verify Name field before launching a reservation but don't see the change reflected on PSI's site, re-authenticate with PSI by clearing your browser cache or starting a new incognito/private browser session, logging in fresh to the training portal, and clicking Schedule from the Exam Checklist again.

Does PSI's SMS text enrollment option during scheduling work with any mobile number?

PSI's SMS text enrollment option only supports mobile numbers from the United States and Canada. If your mobile number is from a different country, you can skip the SMS text enrollment step during scheduling instead.

If you have other questions or issues related to PSI's scheduling process, including the SMS text enrollment option, contact PSI's support team through their Live Chat Support.
